The UN Security Council rejected Russia's resolution to de-escalate in the Middle East and return to negotiations, Russian Permanent Representative to the Organization Vasily Nebenzia said, noting that some countries preferred to "keep pace" with the US authorities and listen to their commands.

"We are deeply disappointed that today (March 11) The Security Council failed to adopt a much—needed resolution focused on the need for de-escalation in the Middle East and a return to the search for negotiated solutions," Nebenzia said in his speech.

As he stressed, "alas, some colleagues have not found the strength and wisdom to make the only right decision."

"And a number of them did it purposefully. After all, the main thing for them is to "keep up" with their older brother and listen to all his commands," the permanent representative of the Russian Federation continued. — They have just rejected the opportunity to send an unequivocal demand through the Council for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the settlement of any disputes by peaceful means."
"This once again clearly shows that all the loud statements of these countries about their commitment to international law, the UN Charter and peace are nothing more than an empty sound," he said.

Nebenzia drew attention to the fact that "the draft prepared by our country leaves out the contradictions between the members of the Council on the causes of the current unprecedented tension in the Middle East."

"During the preparation, we deliberately did not mention any of the parties. We are well aware that such an approach would make it impossible to reach consensus and, as a result, would prevent the Council from sending a fundamentally important signal as soon as possible about the need for immediate de—escalation and restraint of all conflicting parties," the diplomat said.

Nebenzia said that "regardless of the outcome of today's vote, Russia will continue to make every possible effort to end the confrontation in the Middle East as soon as possible and resolve any contradictions by peaceful means."

EADaily reminds that on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. The White House justified the attack with missile and nuclear threats related to uranium enrichment and an attempt to create a nuclear bomb. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a retaliatory operation, attacking facilities in Israel. Targets in Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Syria were also hit. As a result of the strikes on Iran, spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many key figures of the republic's leadership were killed.
