The Lithuanian group of railway companies Lietuvos gelezinkeliai (LTG) has suffered significant financial losses over the past four years due to the cessation of transportation of Belarusian fertilizers. This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport.
It is noted that the decrease in income is due to the suspension of the transit of Belarusian fertilizers and the severance of ties with Russia. The key factor was the termination of transit of Belaruskali products from February 1, 2022.
To compensate for the shortfall in revenues, the state allocated about 367 million euros of borrowed funds to LTG Group from 2022 to 2025. It is reported that in 2022 the company was allocated 59.96 million euros, in 2023 — 60.61 million euros, in 2024 — 65.63 million euros, and in December 2025 — 80.78 million euros.
Earlier, LTG annually transported about 11 million tons of potash fertilizers. However, in 2022 Lithuania refused to transit Belarusian potassium due to the sanctions imposed by the United States on the republic's relations. At the end of 2025, the White House lifted the restrictions, but Vilnius decided to leave its sanctions in force.
