The Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov was outraged by the story of the arrest of the ex-wife of a member of the board of directors of Alfa-Bank Alexander Galitsky, Aliya Galitskaya, who committed suicide in an IVS. The resignation of the judge who arrested Galitskaya was the result of Krasnov's intervention, a source told TASS.

"Krasnov was outraged, as a result, the chairman of the Istra court filed an application for the resignation of the chairman of the court," said the agency interlocutor.

He confirmed that the judge who made the arrest decision had submitted his resignation.

As EADaily reported, a criminal libel case was initiated against Galitskaya (part 5 of Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) for spreading false information about Alexander Galitsky, a former member of the board of directors of Alfa-Bank. And on February 4, 2026, a case was initiated against her under paragraph "b" of part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (extortion in order to obtain property on an especially large scale). The court chose the Galician measure of restraint in the form of detention until April 3, 2026. The next day she committed suicide in an IVS.

According to the investigation, no later than July 2024, Galitskaya, acting as part of a group of persons by prior agreement, using telephone calls, correspondence, during personal meetings with Galitsky under the threat of spreading information that disgraces him, as well as other information that may cause significant harm to the rights and legitimate interests of the entrepreneur, demanded from him over $ 150 million.

Later, the Moscow Regional Court overturned the decision of the court of first instance on the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention against Aliya Galitskaya. The decision on the measure of restraint in the form of detention was canceled at the request of the investigator. The Moscow Regional Court also issued a private ruling against the judge, by whose decision Galitskaya was taken into custody. "The Moscow Regional Court pointed out that there was no proper motivation for the decision to take the suspect into custody," the court's press service said.
