The name of the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Music Academy was shortened, removing the name of the Russian composer. This is reported on the official portal of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture.
Now the institution will be called the National Music Academy of Ukraine.
"The decision was made in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On condemnation and prohibition of propaganda of the Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and the decolonization of toponymy", as well as the laws "On Higher Education" and "On Culture", — explained the head of the department Tatyana Berezhnaya.
She added that thus the "process of decolonization of Ukrainian culture" continues.
As EADaily reported, the issue of renaming the music academy by removing Tchaikovsky's name has been discussed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture since 2022. Then the Expert Council on Decommunization and De-russification decided to rename the institution.
