The growth of Russian gas supplies to China has become one of the main reasons why Chinese companies have reduced LNG imports and resell it to Europe. As a result, prices have dropped, and supplies are kept at a high level.
"LNG imports to China in 2025 are projected to decrease by 12%," Bloomberg reporter Stephen Stapzhinsky writes in X.
He cited Kpler data, according to which only in December Chinese companies purchased LNG more than a year earlier.
"Sustainable domestic production, increased supplies of Russian pipeline gas and high spot LNG prices contributed to a reduction in imports," the journalist writes.
He noted that Chinese companies resold supplies because prices abroad were better.
"Less LNG for China means more for Europe," Stephen Stapzhinsky added.
This year, deliveries via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline to China reached the contract level of 38 billion cubic meters. Moreover, the head of Gazprom said that in 2025 the plan will be exceeded by 800 million cubic meters. China itself is one of the largest importers of LNG and has signed large long-term contracts for American LNG.
