Gazprom is concerned about gas reserves in the EU: they take away how much France consumes

During the Christmas holidays, the European Union takes gas from storage facilities at a record pace. This was stated in Gazprom.

"Europe continues to reduce gas reserves in underground storage facilities at a record pace during the holidays," the company said.

They cited data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) that on December 26 (and before that on December 24 and 25) the maximum daily gas withdrawals from European UGS facilities for these days were recorded in the entire history of observations.

"Europe usually consumes less gas on weekends and holidays than on weekdays," the Russian company explained.

At the same time, on December 25, gas extraction from European UGS exceeded the previous maximum for this day by 160 million cubic meters, which is comparable to the amount of gas consumed in December on average per day throughout France.

"A rapid decrease in gas reserves in underground storage facilities leads to a premature decrease in their productivity and jeopardizes reliable gas supply to consumers during the cold weather," Gazprom added.

As reported by EADaily, in December Gazprom reached record gas supplies via the European line of the Turkish Stream. This is the only direction in which Russian pipeline gas enters the EU countries.
