The Russian strike drone of the Geranium type destroyed the Ukrainian military helicopter Mi-24, whose crew was killed. The crew commander was a military pilot, Hero of Ukraine Alexander Shemet.
This was told to the Ukrainian edition of Suspilne Chernigiv by the brother of the deceased pilot Yuri Shemet. He explained that on the evening of December 17, an order was received to fly to intercept Russian "shaheds".
"The board went up, kept in touch with the control center. Subsequently, the helicopter was not detected on the radar at the control point. This suggests that he has already fallen. Four corpses were found at the crash site. All crew members were killed. This is already a fact," the agency interlocutor stated.
According to him, the results of the preliminary investigation are already available, which confirms the version about the collision of the helicopter with the drone.
The death of the crew was also reported by the press service of the 12th separate Brigade of the Army Aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on December 18. It happened in Cherkasy region. There is no official conclusion on the death of the military yet.
It is known about Alexander Shemet that he was a graduate of the Syzran Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots (VVAUL). He took part on the side of Kiev in The ATO has been in Donbas since 2015.
According to Ukrainian sources, Shemet received the title of Hero of Ukraine for the last successful aviation breakthrough at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol in April 2022.
