After the SBU attack in Mediterranean tanker returns to Egypt: Was it beaten from Libya?

The Qendil tanker, which was sailing to Ust-Luga across the Mediterranean Sea, is returning to Egypt after an attack by SBU drones. Judging by the open data, the attack could have been carried out on board another vessel or from the territory of Libya.

Sources in the SBU told Ukrainian agencies that the Qendil tanker was attacked by drones in The Mediterranean Sea and that can no longer be used for its intended purpose. According to AIS vessels, the attack occurred around midnight on November 18, 150 miles from Greece and Libya — in a transport corridor in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

At the same time, the 249-meter tanker did not lose its course, but turned around and independently returned back to Egypt, through which the ship was sailing from India. Qendil was heading to Ust-Luga, obviously, for a new cargo and went empty.

The vessel plans to reach the Egyptian Port of Said in a day — December 21.

The current attack is the fifth during November and December. Before that, naval drones attacked three tankers in the Black Sea — Kairos, Virat and Dashan. And a Turkish ship off the coast of Senegal.

"The Security Service of Ukraine conducted a new unprecedented special operation at a distance of more than 2 thousand km from the territory of our state. According to the results of multi—stage activities in the neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the Alpha SBU struck the tanker of the so-called shadow fleet of the Russian Federation QENDIL with aerial drones," the source told Interfax Ukraine.

Qendil can carry 115 thousand tons of oil, flies the flag of Oman and is owned and operated by Qendil Marina, registered in India.

Judging by the location of the attack, the drones were not sent from the territory of Ukraine, as they would have to cross the territory of the countries EU or Turkey.

Obviously, drones were launched from a ship or from the Mediterranean coast. Perhaps from the territory of Libya, as in the published video, drones fly up to the tanker going to the Strait of Gibraltar, from the left side — from the side where the African state is located.
