Russia needs peace, not a truce, which Kiev uses to continue the war. This was announced today, December 16, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

So he commented on the idea of a "Christmas truce", which was previously expressed by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and then supported in Kiev.

"We want peace, we don't want a truce to give Ukraine a break and prepare for the continuation of the war. We want to stop this war, achieve our goals, secure our interests and guarantee peace in Europe for the future. That's what we want," Peskov said.

He also said that Russia would not pay attention to the statement of the leaders of the EU countries following the talks in Berlin, in which it is proposed to send multinational forces to the country and maintain the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at a level not lower than 800 thousand people.

"We have seen newspaper publications so far, we will not respond to newspaper publications. We haven't seen any texts yet. When we see it, then we will analyze it," Peskov said. — We want to stop this war, achieve our goals, secure our interests and guarantee peace in Europe for the future. That's what we want."

As EADaily reported, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Europe would appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin to declare a truce on Christmas. At the same time, Merz does not seem to know that in Russia celebrates Christmas on January 7. On the same day, most Orthodox believers celebrate on Ukraine, although Zelensky has already postponed the date of the holiday to December 25.
