"You and I know very well that in post—industrial society the birth rate is low, and in countries with relatively poor populations it is high... We should strive not backward, but forward, and we will do everything to make this rating higher. This is a challenge for us, one of the most important, we will work on it," the head of state said.

According to various estimates, in 2025, 1.18-1.19 million children were born in the country, which is the absolute minimum in the entire history of Russia. Last year even broke the 1999 anti-record of 1.214 million newborns.
