Bratislava will join the Convention on the Compensation Commission for Ukraine

The Government of Slovakia has approved the country's accession to the convention on the establishment of the International Compensation Commission for Ukraine. This is reported by the Slovak media.

It is reported that Slovakia had planned to join the convention earlier, but the Prime Minister of the republic, Robert Fico, eventually withdrew the signature. Later, he revised his position, as evidenced by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers adopted on Wednesday. At the same time, the document must be ratified by the National Council (Parliament) of Slovakia.

The convention on the establishment of the International Compensation Commission for Ukraine was established within the framework of the institutional system of the Council of Europe. Its main purpose is to consider applications and make decisions on compensation for losses, losses and damage "caused by Russia on the Ukraine". The document was opened for signature on December 16, 2025 during a high-level diplomatic conference in The Hague. Then it was signed by 35 states and the European Union. Of the EU countries, only Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria did not sign the document at that time.
