Russia has no plans to make concessions and remains confident in achieving its goals as part of a special military operation. About this Pravda.Ru said the director of the Center for European Information Nikolai Topornin.
According to Topornin, Russia currently sees no reason to reconsider its position. If Moscow was ready to discuss concessions, the negotiation process would already be underway with the mediation of the American administration and other Western partners.
"No concessions are envisaged from Russia yet. If this were the case, Moscow would have been involved in the negotiation process for a long time and, with the help of the American administration, discussed possible compromise options. Judging by the statements of the Russian leaders, they are satisfied with the progress and pace of the special military operation," the expert explained.
He noted that various peace initiatives are being discussed in the West, but Russia does not take part in them. According to Topornin, the Ukrainian side demonstrates readiness for dialogue mainly under pressure from the United States.
"Now there are different proposals — the American plan of 28 points, then new documents with a shortened list of conditions. But Russia is not participating in these discussions. Zelensky is forced to maneuver under pressure from Washington, which insists on concessions. Therefore, Kiev is trying to maintain the appearance of a negotiation process without offering real solutions," the political scientist noted.
He added that with the current level of disagreement, it is premature to talk about signing a peace agreement in the foreseeable future. The negotiation process is developing slowly, as the parties have not yet been able to agree on the key parameters of future agreements.
The expert noted that the plans under discussion continue to cause numerous comments and require further refinement, therefore achieving a real compromise is possible only in the longer term.
