Lithuanian trucks stuck in Belarus should be compensated at the expense of frozen Belarusian assets. This was stated by the leader of the Democratic Union "In the Name of Lithuania" Saulius Skvernalis.
"We need to figure out how many of these trucks are actually being held hostage, because in fact there is no such situation as we are told here, there are not so many of them, and these figures are completely different. And... we just need to understand that they will be lost or may be lost, and the carriers need to be compensated. But it should be paid not from the Lithuanian budget, but at the expense of Belarusian assets located in Lithuania," he said.
According to him, Vilnius should already be preparing for such a step.
"Nothing prohibits starting court proceedings using temporary protective measures, as in the case of the same sanatorium in Druskininkae, so that the property is assessed, described by bailiffs and prepared so that, if necessary, compensation is paid, the property is sold and compensation is paid. If they are confiscated, then in Asymmetric measures will also be applied to Lithuania," Skvernalis suggested.
Let's remind, after Lithuania closed the border with Belarus for several weeks. Thousands of Lithuanian trucks and trailers are stuck on Belarusian territory. Currently, they are still unable to travel to Lithuania, as Vilnius refuses to negotiate with Minsk at a high level. At the same time, the sanatorium "Belarus" in Druskininkai is the property of Belarus, but it has been under severe Western sanctions for several years.
