The report of the British edition of the Daily Express that Azerbaijan "secretly supplies Ukraine with Su-22, disguising fighter jets as humanitarian aid," is misinformation, the Azerbaijani edition of Minval stated, citing its sources.
"Azerbaijan strictly adheres to neutrality and provides Ukraine only with humanitarian assistance," the newspaper writes.
There are reports that a former close ally of Russia, Azerbaijan, is secretly selling fighter jets to Ukraine, as well as supplying gas, the British tabloid Daily Express reported earlier.
It is claimed that Baku is sending Su-22 fighters to Ukraine "through a secret logistics chain passing through Turkey, Sudan and Germany." The planes are re-marked as humanitarian aid and are sent along routes that once transported weapons related to Russia, the newspaper writes.
Azerbaijan also supplies gas to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan Pipeline, a route that Russia once dominated, with small volumes of supplies, but this deal was the first alternative source for Kiev since it completely stopped importing from Russia, the publication says.
"Azerbaijan has large stocks of Soviet and Russian-made weapons that it could sell to Ukraine. The arsenal includes artillery systems, multiple launch rocket systems, armored vehicles and tanks. Baku also has several Tochka-U short—range ballistic missile systems, which are currently complemented by more advanced Israeli platforms," the British tabloid notes.
