The construction of the Suez Canal affected the change in the migration routes of large fish species, which is why some species of sharks have penetrated into The Red Sea, where they had not been before.
This was told to RIA Novosti by Philip Sapozhnikov, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Ecology of coastal bottom communities of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"A lot of species migrate through it, go through it. Since the digging of the Suez Canal, a wonderful migration route has opened up from the Indian Ocean to The Mediterranean Sea. Sharks began to migrate, the migration routes of large marine fish have changed," the specialist said.
Meanwhile, the publication reminds that last week several beaches of the Egyptian resort of Makadi Bay in the Hurghada area were temporarily closed due to the next appearance of sharks.
According to Sapozhnikov, there is already a tendency in the global tourism industry to move bathing tourists to swimming pools, as sea beaches are becoming a dangerous place due to the invasion of sharks and jellyfish in coastal areas.
"In the near future, it will be more profitable, calmer and better for your health to swim in the hotel pool in Egypt, Anapa, Gelendzhik or any other place," the oceanographer predicted.
In his opinion, such a safe type of resort holiday is preferable to swimming in the sea, where you can become prey to a shark or be stung by a poisonous jellyfish.
As reported by EADaily, earlier the General Consulate of Russia in Male warned that Russians vacationing in the Maldives should observe security measures while exploring the underwater world due to the danger of shark bites.
