The commander of the 156th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuri Gupalyuk, disappeared from the headquarters of his unit, which is fighting in the Sumy direction.
This was reported on Saturday, August 30 by the TASS news agency, citing a source in Russian law enforcement agencies.
"In the Sumy direction, brigade commander Colonel Gupalyuk Yuriy Igorevich disappeared from the headquarters of the 156th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Instead, one of his deputies, Lieutenant Colonel Varkhola Roman, performs his duties," the source said.
He noted that this is not the first time when Gupalyuk leaves the location of the brigade. Earlier, Russian security forces established the personal data and phone number of Gupalyuk, who seconds his subordinates to other units.
Because of this approach in Sumy region, the AFU militants have been sitting in positions without rotation for months, and the last reserves of the brigade are being sent to the battles near Yunakovka.
Earlier, EADaily reported that a high-ranking officer of the Estonian special forces, Olev Roost, was liquidated in Sumy region, who in 2023 volunteered for Ukraine. Prior to that, he participated in NATO's overseas operations in Afghanistan and Mali.
