Russia will face "very tough" duties and secondary sanctions from the United States if no ceasefire agreement or peace deal on Ukraine is reached in 50 days, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said at a briefing.
US President Donald Trump threatened similar measures on July 14.
"As the president has clearly indicated, if there is no ceasefire agreement or peace agreement within this period, if Russia refuses to legally agree to a ceasefire, then they will face very high tariffs, as well as secondary sanctions. Thus, the countries that buy oil from Russia will also be subject to sanctions, and, of course, this will cause serious damage to the Russian economy," she said.
Leavitt stressed Trump's desire for the conflict to be resolved diplomatically.
