Two agents of the Moldovan secret service who were preparing to conduct covert operations have been detained in Moscow. They arrived in Russia under cover documents to carry out a mission against the country's security.
They were detained in May of this year. Today, on June 25, the FSB released some details of their criminal activities. For a long period of time, the defendants, on the instructions of their curators, established and developed contacts with activists of political movements and public organizations of interest to Moldovan intelligence through Internet messengers. The suspects have confessed and are actively cooperating with the investigation.
"We were told that we needed to fly to the city of Moscow to perform important tasks for the intelligence of the Republic of Moldova," one of the detainees confirmed.
They willingly agreed to cooperate with the Information and Security Service (SIB) of the Republic of Moldova because of convictions and money. Their supervisor was one of the heads of the Main Directorate of Foreign Intelligence of the SIB, Alexander Syrbu.
"He also recruited them and personally trained them in the forms and methods of agent work abroad, such as conducting secret operations, detecting surveillance, collecting diverse information on the objects of intelligence aspirations of foreign special services in Russia," he said in a video posted by the FSB Central Intelligence Service.
Adrian Popescu, an officer of the Main Directorate of Foreign Intelligence of the SIB, was responsible for the transfer of two agents to Russia.

As reported by EADaily, the Investigation Department of the FSB of Russia has initiated criminal cases against the Moldovan citizens currently detained under Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state, international or foreign organization). The sanction of this article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
