The board of the Armenian Progressive Centrist Alliance Party announced on June 9 the nomination of a "real alternative candidate" for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia - chairman of the Alliance party, former deputy of the three convocations of the National Assembly of Armenia Tigran Urikhanyan, writes VERELQ.
As noted in the statement of the political force, in connection with the constitutional process of removing from power the criminal agent group that seized the leadership in the Republic of Armenia, the board of the Armenian Progressive Centrist Alliance Party considers it unacceptable to nominate candidates associated with the previous system or holding appointed positions in the current usurped as part of the impeachment procedure management.
"Based on this, the party decided to nominate a real alternative candidate for the post of prime minister - chairman of the Alliance party, former deputy of the three convocations of the National Assembly of Armenia Tigran Urikhanyan. For many years, he has consistently expressed a tough opposition position against both the former authorities and the current regime. Currently, Urikhanyan is being prosecuted at the initiative of the current authorities for publicly criticizing the current regime, officially being the object of political persecution," the statement says.
It is worth recalling that public figures close to the ex-President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan appealed to the deputies of the Armenian Parliament with a demand to impeach the government of Nikol Pashinyan for systematic failure to fulfill election promises. However, Pashinyan's "Civil Contract" party currently has the majority of mandates in parliament, and in this regard, the impeachment initiative, according to experts, is obviously a failure and is no longer aimed at removing Pashinyan, but at compromising the opposition bloc "Armenia" led by another ex-president Robert Kocharyan, who aims to win in the next parliamentary elections in June 2026.
It is important that deputies Hovik Aghazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan, who recently broke away from Pashinyan's party, also announced on May 16 their intention to begin the process of expressing no confidence in Nikol Pashinyan's government and proposed Edmond Marukyan, the former ambassador-at—large of the same Pashinyan, as a candidate for the post of prime minister from the opposition. On the other hand, the little-known candidacy of David Hambartsumyan for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia was put forward by the ex-ruling Republican Party of Armenia, which is part of the "I have the Honor" bloc.
The opposition faction "Armenia" declared its readiness "within a reasonable time" to provide the missing 28 signatures of deputies to launch the impeachment process of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This was announced by the head of the faction Seyran Ohanyan. He noted that the political responsibility for the process was assumed by the "I have the Honor" faction together with its proposed candidate for the post of Prime Minister David Hambartsumyan.
