Kharkiv publishing house "Family Leisure Club" (KSD) decided to destroy 30 thousand books by American writer Sophie Lark for "romanticizing Russia."
According to the Ukrainian edition of Strana, the decision was made under pressure from some representatives of the "patriotic public." Now the newly printed edition of the book will not go on sale.
"We have decided to destroy the circulation of 30,000 copies and terminate the contract for all 6 books in the series. We admit our mistake when concluding an agreement with the author," the KSD repented.
In a penitent statement, the publishing house said that "the American writer called Crimea Russian," and also described how "Rasputin handed over most of Ukraine to the Germans."
The publishers are blaming the "patriots" for not noticing earlier how the malicious American Lorak described the Ukrainian state in general "in a negative way."
All these events were preceded by a campaign in social networks, which brought down a storm of criticism and direct threats on the publishing house for the fact that the KSD, together with the author, "romanticize the Russian mafia."
There is especially a lot of indignation about the plot, the heroine of which is a certain resident of Lviv named Elena Zelenskaya. She is eager to leave Ukraine to marry a foreigner. The heroine believes that Ukrainian men are rude, and in the cities "it stinks of diesel and is generally a complete horror."
The representatives of the KSD swore that they would never make such "mistakes" in the future.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the Ukrainian publishing house Apricot decided to destroy the circulation of the children's book by the writer Julianna Karaman and break the contract with her due to the fact that she runs social networks in Russian.
