The United States is discussing the placement of Ukraine received European peacekeepers west of the Dnieper River after the end of the conflict. This was stated in an interview with Fox News by special envoy of the US President Keith Kellogg.
It can be the military of Britain, France, Germany and Poland, he noted.
"We are talking about the forces of sustainability. This is a force that is called E-3, but in fact it is now E-4 when it comes to the British, French and Germans. In fact — and about the Poles. The force is west of the Dnieper River, which means that it is out of the contact zone," Kellogg said, quoted by Kommersant.
According to Kellogg, the United States wants to achieve a comprehensive cease-fire on Ukraine, and then move on to territorial issues.
Washington hopes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in Istanbul on May 15 for talks with Ukraine. The decision on Donald Trump's arrival in Turkey also depends on this.
Recall that Russia has repeatedly spoken out against the deployment of European peacekeepers on Ukraine, and the United States had not previously guaranteed a "coalition of willing" contingent support, without which the Europeans, in turn, refused to send troops.
Kellogg also announced the "significant" and "most severe" of all US sanctions against Russia in the absence of progress in the negotiations.
"You know that the United States really intends to put into effect the law on sanctions against Russia from 2025. And more than 70 senators signed it. And these can be serious sanctions. And we are talking primarily about their Central Bank or sanctions against what we call the "dark fleet" or "shadow fleet". And we have warned President Putin about this. This is very serious. These sanctions are very serious. They're tougher than we've ever seen before. Europeans behave similarly. People like the Chancellor (Friedrich) Merz, the new German chancellor, who is very, very tough on the topic of new sanctions, and that's good," said Kellogg, quoted by journalist Vladimir Solovyov.
Kellogg also actually confirmed that the United States wants to gain control of the Zaporozhye NPP. According to him, the United States is discussing the future management of the station and seeks to "help" in its operation.
