Copenhagen intends to summon the US Ambassador to Denmark after the publication in the Wall Street Journal of an article that the United States is gathering intelligence about Greenland. It is reported by Agence France-Presse with reference to the statement of the country's Foreign Minister Lars Lekke Rasmussen.
"The article caused a lot of concern because friends don't spy on each other. This is very serious, and we will summon the Ambassador [of the United States] for a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Rasmussen said while in Warsaw, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that the United States is stepping up intelligence gathering about Greenland. According to the publication, last week the director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and several other high-ranking officials instructed the US intelligence services to "learn more about the movement for the independence of Greenland and about the attitude of the Americans to the extraction of natural resources on the island."
"WSJ should be ashamed" that journalists are helping the "deep state", undermining the authority of the president and disclosing secret data, Gabbard said, commenting on the article.
