Sanctions against Belarusian fertilizers threaten global food security. This was stated by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergey Lukashevich in an interview with the Brazilian edition of O Mundo Diplomatico.
"The export of Belarusian fertilizers is a significant contribution to the sustainable development of world agriculture and the fight against hunger. Belarus is ready to continue to work actively to ensure global food security, actively participate in the fight against hunger, poverty, and the consequences of climate change," he said.
Lukashevich stressed that the deterioration of the food security situation in the world is caused not only by global crises and climate change, but also by the sanctions policy of a number of European states, including our neighbors.
"Sanctions limit the possibility of supplying fertilizers from Belarus to international markets, which jeopardizes global food security. Soberly assessing the harmful consequences of such actions, Belarus calls for abandoning the practice of using illegal unilateral coercive measures. We hope to use the weight and potential of BRICS to overcome the artificial sanctions obstacles erected by Western countries in the way of exporting Belarusian mineral fertilizers," the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus said.
Belarus has been under tough Western sanctions since 2020. In particular, Belarusian fertilizers were also subject to restrictions.
