Special envoy of the US President Steven Witkoff began to cause discontent among members of the government, whose statements are quoted by The New York Post (NYP), citing sources in the White House.
"It would be useful for anyone who takes part in such negotiations with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to have people experienced in matters related to Russia in his team to accompany him at meetings with the Kremlin," said the director of the Russian branch of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
According to the newspaper, some employees of the American administration speak about Witkoff's recent trips in a purely negative way.
"Nice guy, but <"idiot," said a White House official, "he shouldn't be doing this alone," TASS reports.
Earlier, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported that Putin received Witkoff in the Kremlin, the conversation lasted three hours and was "constructive and very useful."
