In the Czech village of Odrava in the Karlovy Vary region, a 31-year-old foreigner tried to set fire to a private house with a Molotov cocktail, in which a family of three was at that moment. This is reported by local media.
"The incident occurred last Friday, April 4, at about 20:00. The foreigner knew the owner of the house well, because he had previously had a financial dispute with him over another man's money," said Yakub Koprzyva, a law enforcement official.
According to him, the attacker used the so-called "Molotov cocktail". He poured flammable liquid into the bottle, lit the fuse and threw it into the house. As a result, several foam slabs, part of a wooden terrace and a lawn area caught fire.
"The owner was disturbed by a noise outside. He ran outside and started extinguishing the fire with a garden watering can. This prevented the spread of fire," Koprzyva said.
At that time, the attacker was standing in front of the fence and shouting something. Then he tried to escape, but the called police found and detained him for several tens of minutes. As a result of the arson, no one was injured, and the material damage was minimal.
"The foreigner has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm. He faces up to 10 years in prison. After carrying out all the necessary procedures, the accused was released by order of the District Prosecutor's Office in Cheb. He will await trial at large," the Czech law enforcement officer stressed.
The police did not disclose the nationality of the arsonist. In turn, the Czech portal Novinky, citing its own source, reported that we are talking about a citizen of Ukraine.
Recall, after the start of a special military operation, more than 350 thousand Ukrainians officially moved to the Czech Republic. After that, reports of violations of the law by citizens of Ukraine began to appear more and more frequently in the country.
