Young people are leaving Latvia — an English tourist was surprised by the desolation of evening Riga

The Baltic countries, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, are in a state of long-term population outflow, which has developed into a permanent demographic catastrophe.

Another proof of this was a video recorded by an English tourist in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The Englishman shared his amazement on the TikTok service.

The video shows that almost complete desolation reigns in a large evening European city, Riga resembles a ghost town.

"I just landed here in Riga. I decided to take a walk. Almost no passers—by can be seen in Old Riga, despite the children's eight o'clock in the evening," the tourist stated.

The video was overgrown with comments in which the English guest was told that young people were leaving Latvia because there was simply nothing to do in this country. No job, no future — this is the story of Latvia's "European success".

The Englishman wrote in response that he had a friend in the UK who had moved from Latvia, and he shared the same opinion.

"Most of the people I saw in the area where I stayed are rather elderly, so this explains the situation!" the tourist stated.
