US President-elect Donald Trump plans to impose devastating sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague immediately after taking office in connection with the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. This is reported by Israel Hayom, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The relevant decrees, according to sources, may be made public as early as January 21, the day after Trump's inauguration, the Israel News telegram channel writes.
The sanctions package will be aimed both at individual ICC staff, including judges and prosecutors, and at the institution as a whole. The ICC is planned to be classified as an organization threatening the interests of the United States, using procedures similar to those that the State Department uses for terrorist organizations around the world. This designation will entail serious restrictions for everyone involved in the activities of the court.
"Financial institutions around the world will be required to end relations with ICC personnel or face US sanctions. Repeating the actions taken by the outgoing administration against Israeli citizens under sanctions, ICC employees will not be able to perform normal banking operations or use credit cards. Their economic activity will be virtually frozen. In addition, all assets in the United States owned by employees and the institution itself will be frozen," writes TK.
It is noted that the Trump administration's strategy goes beyond unilateral actions.: She intends to get US allies to commit to refusing to cooperate with arrest warrants for Israeli officials.
