Espionage equipment was found on the Eagle S tanker associated with Russia, detained in Finland on December 25, with the help of which NATO ships and aircraft were tracked. This is reported by the shipping magazine Lloyd's List.
The vessel is suspected of damaging the Estlink 2 submarine cable in the Baltic Sea.
"Eagle S, a Russian-linked tanker suspected of damaging an underwater electrical cable on Christmas, was equipped with special transmitting and receiving devices that were used to monitor naval activity, according to a source directly related to the vessel,"the magazine writes.
It is noted that Eagle S was boarded by Finnish law enforcement officers investigating sabotage on the Estlink 2 underwater cable, as a result of which the power supply to Estonia from Finland.
"The tanker slowed down and dragged the anchor around the cable around noon on December 25, the Finnish police said. Three more cables were also damaged," the note says.
As reported by EADaily, the Finnish authorities detained the Eagle S tanker, which carries Russian gasoline to the Middle East or Asia. The vessel is suspected of damage to the EstLink 2 power cable.
Recall, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal intends to ask NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte against the background of the incident with damage to the EstLink 2 cable between Finland and Estonia on the provision of a "deterrence fleet". This was reported by the newspaper Postimees.
