Belarusians should avoid elections, but not protest against them. This was stated by the fugitive Belarusian oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya in an interview with the Reuters news agency.
According to her, voting in the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus is "a ritual designed to give false legitimacy to Alexander Lukashenko." At the same time, she said that she feared that people taking to the streets would end in dispersals.
"We cannot allow protests at this moment, because for four years people have been experiencing such brutal repression," she said.
Tikhanovskaya also believes that the presidential elections of Belarus in January 2025 will not be a trigger for social processes. In this regard, she "asked people not to sacrifice themselves," and those who are "forced to go to vote," recommended spoiling their ballots as a sign of disagreement.
Recall, Tikhanovskaya fled Belarus after losing the 2020 presidential election. Subsequently, she and her supporters engaged in rocking the situation in the republic with the assistance of Western countries. The Belarusian authorities have already warned everyone that they will not allow a repeat of the events of 2020 in the upcoming presidential elections, which are scheduled for January 26, 2025.
