Romania destroyed drones drifting near a gas field in the Black Sea. It is reported by Reuters with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the country.
According to Romanian Defense Minister Radu Miruta, military divers destroyed two drones drifting in the exclusive economic zone of the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas field. The drones were discovered by the crew of a civilian vessel operating near an offshore gas project.
"In order to ensure the safety of the shipping channel and the work carried out around the platform, it was decided to carry out controlled destruction by detonation," Miruta added, quoted by the Strana newspaper.
According to the press service of the department, the drones were destroyed at a distance of about 90 nautical miles from Constanta. They also noted that, in addition to the drifting UAVs themselves, fragments of other drones were found on the surface of the water.
Miruta did not specify whose drones they were, but noted that Ukraine did not recognize them as its own.
As reported by EADaily, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador of Kiev after the drone crashed in the gas pipeline area near the border with Romania. This was reported by BTA with reference to a source in the ministry.
As the department said, the Ukrainian ambassador is expected on Monday, August 10, since he is currently outside Bulgaria.
