Merz's party demands that the special services be allowed preventive cyber attacks against Russia. This is reported by DW.

The initiative was made by the chairman of the Bundestag committee for the control of special services Mark Henrichmann, representing the party of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz CDU, which heads the ruling coalition in Germany.

"We really need to expand the capabilities of our special services so that, ideally, they can disable and neutralize an attack drone in Russia or the factory where it is produced before it can strike a German airport or endanger the safety and lives of people in Germany," Henrichmann told Welt TV.

According to the MP, "the best drone is the one that will never take off and will not be able to threaten Germany."

"Information gathering alone" in the work of the German intelligence services is not enough, he added, calling for their new powers to be included in the draft intelligence reform.

The German government plans to approve the project on August 12. It is assumed that the special services will receive greater powers to combat terrorism, extremism and intelligence activities of other states. The 700-page bill was published in early July.
