Immediately 230 migrants on one boat reached the UK across the English Channel, which became a new record for such crossings. It is reported by The Independent.
It is reported that the inflatable vessel — "megalodka" — left France and arrived in Dover early in the morning on August 10. The previous maximum was set only a month earlier: then 165 people crossed the strait on one watercraft. According to French rescuers, the boat with a length of about 15 meters was heavily overloaded. It is noted that about 30 people were in the water off the coast of France during the landing, they had to be rescued.
It should be recalled that recently migrant carriers have begun to use larger inflatable vessels and place more people on them. At the same time, the number of such crossings to the UK in 2026 is still lower than in the previous year. From January to July, about 14 thousand people crossed the English Channel on small vessels.
