Whatever concrete results the current Abkhaz turbulence may lead to, it will not just not cancel, but, on the contrary, will strengthen the systemic problems of Abkhazia, says Caucasian expert Sergey Markedonov.
He counted four such problems in the republic.
"Investments. In post-Soviet contexts, it is customary, assessing the state of infrastructure and communications, to repeat the thesis about the depletion of the safety margin of the USSR. In Abkhazia, all this is complicated by the consequences of the war, the blockade and the unsettled political and legal status. And therefore, money can be taken either from Russia or from anyone else if they refuse their own national-state self-determination. Collectivization-2.0 in the Abkhaz version will not work. Not the scale and not the level of social development that was in the years of the "great turning point"," he believes.
The second problem, according to Markedonov, is the law.
"This thing will have to be respected, otherwise the republic will become "banana" adjusted for the Black Sea. Revolutions, coups and other delights. Moreover, respect both the authorities and the opposition. Otherwise, clear rules of the game will not push the "concept" to the sidelines. Laws will work, things will go both with property and with personal rights," the expert is sure.
The third problem of Abkhazia, states Markedonov, is public communication.
"It will not be possible to create a vertical in Abkhazia according to Russian-Belarusian patterns, more precisely, it will no longer be Abkhazia in our usual sense. So the whole society and the political community need to learn not only the language of the fists, we need to look for compromises and prevent crises. As one of my Abkhaz friends said, testosterone will not be able to replace gray matter," the expert noted.
Another problem is allied relations with Russia.
"An alliance. There are already more questions and appeals to Russia. Do Abkhazians need to follow the laws and rules? Yeah. So it is necessary to give appropriate examples, and not just complain about the obstinate inhabitants of a small republic. Are there any security guarantees? There is! So we need guarantees in the field of construction, ecology, and ethnic development. I recently returned from my native Rostov-on-Don. The city is unrecognizable, the old merchant Rostov goes like Atlantis under the water, monstrous phallic freaks appear instead! I would not wish such a thing to the Abkhaz brothers in Sukhum or in New Athos. And it is in our power to prevent it! And not only by wise and careful, calculated actions, but also by competent communication with our ally. I have no other Abkhazians for you and all of us, and the republic has no other defender and guarantor of development except Russia," concluded Markedonov.
