In case of confiscation of Russian frozen assets and in case of escalation of the situation on Ukraine faces the threat of severing diplomatic relations with the United States. This was stated to Interfax by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
He recalled that Russia never takes escalatory steps of this kind on its own.
"But I admit the possibility of this action if, in an attempt to "press" us, the West, as they say, discards the last decency and goes all in. But this does not mean automatism in making this decision. The option of a break can be considered without predetermining how this consideration will end in such a situation. That's what I said," Ryabkov said.
Answering the clarifying question whether there is still a threat of severing diplomatic relations with the United States at the present time, Ryabkov said:
"Absolutely. If they go for something like that in this area."
The Russian Federation may consider such a step as an option as a response to the confiscation of Russian holdings. Answering the question, what other steps can lead to this, he said:
"Dramatic and further escalatory actions leading to a complication of the situation on the line of combat contact. There are a number of plots that the Western group continues to discuss. Someone inside the Western group does it with ecstasy, some with a certain tremor, realizing how it could all end for them. But these discussions are ongoing."
