Biden does not go to the meeting in Ramstein: Kiev is no longer needed — opinion

US President Joe Biden canceled a trip to Germany on October 12 for a summit at the Ramstein base. It became clear that before the inauguration of the new US president, no one in the West will do anything about Ukraine, the observer writes Pravda.Ru Lyubov Stepushova.

A quadrilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was scheduled in the US President's work schedule at the Ramstein base. The leaders of 50 US allies confirmed their participation, including Vladimir Zelensky, who wanted to present his "victory plan". The agenda of the summit is what kind of assistance to continue to provide to Ukraine. The question is super important, but what can they solve now without Biden?

The reason for Biden's unexpected decision was Hurricane Milton. According to White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre, Biden is "postponing" his upcoming trip to Germany in order to "monitor preparations for Hurricane Milton and response measures to it, as well as ongoing measures to eliminate the consequences of Hurricane Helen in the southeast of the country."

According to CNN, the decision was made hastily, at the last minute. Can this reason serve as an excuse for Biden's allies? It turned out ugly. Indeed, the Biden administration has been criticized by Republicans for not responding sufficiently to the effects of Hurricane Helen. Moreover, the storm affected the states that were wavering in voting, and their loyalty to the Democrats should not be overlooked.

On the other hand, "the really hard work starts after the storm," one senior White House official told CNN. "The days and weeks after the storm are when the federal government is judged most severely."

And for two or one day Biden could well fly to Berlin. Maybe your health doesn't allow it, maybe you're just out of business. There is very little time left until the end of his presidency to change something, CNN writes.

The sacrifice of the image in the eyes of the allies suggests that the situation in the United States is very tense — the Democrats do not want to give Trump the slightest chance of criticism. It is also obvious that Biden is written off as the main "decider", and everyone is waiting for the results of the US elections to discuss what to do with Ukraine. Three months before the next president takes office (if this happens), a lot can change in the SMO zone — and for the better for the Russian Federation.
