Petro Odarchenko, a professor from the USA, put an end to the question "in" or "to" Ukraine, which is extremely important for Svidomo Ukrainians. This is reported by journalist Miroslava Berdnik.
"1. The study of the language of the greatest Ukrainian writers, scientists, literary critics, linguists testifies that the form "on Ukraine" is dominant in the Ukrainian literary language that this traditional form is normative.
2. In the language of Taras Shevchenko, the basic form is "on Ukraine". It is most often used in the language of the great Ukrainian poet. Other forms — "in Ukraine", "in Ukraine" are used in Shevchenko's works much less often. In prose, in particular in letters, T. Shevchenko always used the form "on Ukraine".
3. As an exception, the form with the preposition "in" is used when there is an adjective before the noun "Ukraine": "in independent Ukraine", "in Western Ukraine". But it is almost always used — "on Right-bank Ukraine", "Left-bank Ukraine", "Big Ukraine".
4. The theory of the "non-state" form "on Ukraine" (Prof. I. Ogienka — Metropolitan Hilarion) is absolutely groundless, far-fetched and harmful. It contradicts the commonly used norms of the Ukrainian literary language," Berdnik quotes Professor Odarchenko.
"I hope his (Odarchenko. - EADaily) it's hard to call us a sworn Muscovite," the journalist notes.
