Svetlana Zakharova, People's Artist of Russia, Prima Ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre, has been appointed Acting Rector of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. This was announced by the Minister of Culture of Russia Olga Lyubimova in her telegram channel.
"In 2011, Svetlana Zakharova created the charity foundation "Assistance to the Development of Ballet Art" and established personal scholarships for the best students of choreographic schools. I am sure that under her leadership MGAKH will continue the glorious traditions that have developed at the Academy," the message says.
Lyubimova noted that for more than 20 years MGAKH was headed by Marina Leonova. Over the years, 450 graduates of the Academy have become laureates and diploma holders of international and all-Russian competitions of ballet dancers and choreographers under her leadership.
"On behalf of the Ministry, I thank Marina Konstantinovna for her work and invaluable contribution to the formation and development of one of the leading ballet schools in the world. She remains an integral part of the academy team, there are still many ambitious tasks ahead," the minister concluded.
As EADaily reported, in August of this year, the world ballet star Sergei Polunin left the post of rector of the Sevastopol Academy of Choreography (SGAH). From this moment acting Rector of FSBEI Prima ballerina People's Artist of Russia Maria Alexandrova has been appointed to the Academy of Choreography of Sevastopol.
