The presence of nuclear weapons in Belarus sobered up the enemy and strengthened the negotiating positions of the republic. This was stated by the head of the Department of International Military Cooperation — Assistant Minister of Defense for International Military Cooperation Valery Revenko.
According to him, the Russian tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus "sobered up and led to a more constructive conversation" with Western countries.
"There used to be a very peculiar attitude that they are very strong, who can influence something that Belarus is not a serious obstacle for them, an adversary," he said.
Revenko noted that due to the deployment of such weapons in Belarus, the country's negotiating positions were strengthened and its defense capability was strengthened. The representative of the Ministry of Defense also called Alexander Lukashenko's decision regarding nuclear weapons affecting strategic deterrence from possible aggression.
It should be recalled that on May 25, 2023, the heads of the defense departments of Belarus and Russia signed documents on the procedure for keeping Russian nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on Belarusian territory. On June 16, 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the first nuclear warheads had been delivered to the republic. Later, Belarusian pilots and rocket scientists underwent special training in the Russian Federation to gain skills in handling special weapons. As noted by Rane Lukashenko, Minsk does not intend to use the country's tactical nuclear weapons until the borders of Belarus are violated.
