Russian President Vladimir Putin's comment about the support of Democrat Kamala Harris in the American elections is part of a chess game, Republican candidate Donald Trump said at a rally in Wisconsin.
"He supported Kamala. I was very offended. I wondered why he supported Kamala. He's playing chess... was it said with a smile? I think so. Perhaps with a smile. I don't even know who will say for sure. No one understands," Trump said.
Putin spoke about the American elections during the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF). He said that President Joe Biden was more preferable to Russia as a candidate, but after his withdrawal from the race, his vice president Kamala Harris became the favorite. Putin said that she "laughs contagiously," which means that she is "doing well." If this is true, then, according to the Russian president, Harris may refrain from new sanctions.
Trump then found it difficult to assess the words of the Russian president.
"I do not know what to say about this. I do not know if I am offended or if he did me a favor," he admitted.
The White House asked the Russian side to refrain from commenting on the elections and interference in them. The Kremlin stressed that Putin answered the question of the moderator of the conversation, and this topic is not a priority. Moscow denies the accusations of interference.
The US presidential election will be held on November 5. The first debate of the candidates is scheduled for September 10. This debate will be the seventh for Trump and the first for Harris. The previous debate, in which Joe Biden represented the Republican Party, was the reason for his refusal to be nominated.
According to the average results of recent polls, Harris is ahead of Trump: 47.3% versus 44.2%, reminds RBC.
