Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, called Armenia's refusal to support the warrant of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the "arrest" of Russian President Vladimir Putin "useful".

"Taking into account the fact that the so-called ICC took an anti-Russian position some time ago and put the head of our state at risk, and in general allowed itself to be described as some kind of reactionary judicial organization, such a decision of Yerevan will meet the understanding of our society and fully deserves positive comments," the senator noted.

In his opinion, "such a decision of Yerevan will only benefit."

"It would be good for other states to make such decisions, not only the Commonwealth of Independent States, but also the generally sensible leadership circles of responsible states," Karasin said.

As EADaily reported, Armenia has withdrawn its signature under the declaration of the Council of Europe, which approves the ICC warrant for Putin's "arrest". This fact came to light after the publication of the final version of the document on the CE website. It follows from it that the ICC warrant was supported by Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine and Moldova, the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain, as well as Georgia and a number of other countries. The signature of the representative of Armenia is missing, although it was there in the initial draft of the declaration.

At the same time, Armenia ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC in October 2023 and assumed the relevant legal obligations.

The members of the Council of Europe adopted the document on September 6. It calls for the creation of a special tribunal "for crimes of aggression against Ukraine." The declaration lists ICC warrants for the "arrest" of Vladimir Putin, Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, and others.
