A mysterious golden ball has been found deep at the bottom of the ocean off the coast of Alaska

At a depth off the coast of Alaska, oceanographers have discovered a mysterious object. For a whole year, scientists have not been able to understand its origin. This was reported by the publication Sciencealert.

The object was found in 2023 during an expedition organized by the Department of Ocean Studies of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the USA. A ball with a diameter of about 10 cm was discovered by a deep-sea robot at a depth of 3.3 thousand m. The object was tightly attached to a stone, and scientists noticed a hole on one of its sides.

Some scientists have suggested that the ball may be a dead sponge or a remnant of coral. According to another hypothesis, the find may be the egg of an unknown sea creature, which suggests the presence of a very large animal in the ocean.

"If it's an egg, then the really interesting question is whose egg it is. It's pretty big. This is not a small fish roe. This is something significant," Sciencealert cites the opinion of the researchers.

At the same time, as emphasized in the publication, the expedition participants were confused by the fact that no other similar balls were found nearby, which is uncharacteristic for the eggs of marine life. The balloon was brought to the surface for further research, but its exact origin has not yet been determined.

"Although we were able to lift the golden ball and deliver it to the ship, we have not yet been able to determine what it is, apart from the fact that it is of biological origin," said expedition leader Sam Candio.
