The United States has reprogrammed the F-16 fighters transferred to Ukraine to counter Russian electronic warfare (EW). It is reported by Business Insider with reference to the BBC.
Denmark and the Netherlands handed over to Ukraine the first batch of F-16 fighters, which Kiev presented this month, but the subsystems of the electronic warfare of the American aircraft needed some refinement to counteract the Russian electronic warfare systems.
"With the transfer by third parties of the F-16 of Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands to Ukraine to fight for Ukraine is being joined by another electronic warfare facility," the Spectrum Warfare 350th Air Wing reported.
They did not specify what these opportunities are, the newspaper notes.
"For the effective integration of the F-16 into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it was necessary to reprogram its electronic warfare subsystems so that they would be effective against developing Russian threats across the spectrum. 68th EWS (squadron of the 350th Wing. — EADaily) accepted this challenge face to face, given the urgent priority it represents for the United States and our partners," the air wing said.
It is noted that after familiarizing with the system, the 68 Squadron reprogrammed it so that it meets the requirements of the Ukrainians.
"One F-16 with a reprogrammed module will not achieve air supremacy alone, but it can provide you with air superiority for some time to achieve a goal that is of strategic importance and influence," the air wing stressed.
The day before, the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, confirmed that Ukrainian F-16s were used in combat to shoot down Russian missiles during a massive attack a day earlier.
