Bundestag deputy Sarah Wagenknecht said that it was the high ratings of her party that forced the German government to reduce the planned amount of financial support for Ukraine. The politician made such a statement in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper published on Thursday, August 22.

According to the parliamentarian, her strong rejection of military support for the Kiev regime "influenced" the policy of official Berlin regarding the financing of Ukraine.

"The fact that the German government has stated that, at a minimum, it does not intend to continue increasing arms supplies is the result of the high ratings of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union party in public opinion polls," she stressed.

At the end of last week, German media reported that Germany plans to reduce military assistance to the Kiev regime by Ukraine due to budget deficits. Later, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habek hastened to refute reports of a decrease in funding for Kiev, saying that the sponsorship of the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants would be provided in full, "without any ifs."

"We are already influencing (government policy), although we are not even in power," Wagenknecht said, talking about the rapid growth of public support for her party. "Our high ratings influence federal discussions," the parliamentarian continued.

According to the media, the results of the land elections scheduled for the end of September in the Russian Federation may be evidence of a high level of approval of the program of the pro-Russian Sarah Wagenknecht Union among voters. Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg. In all three eastern lands, the current ratings of the party, according to a study by Forsa, range from 13% to 18%, which is "an outstanding achievement for a party that is not even a year old," the newspaper summarizes.

As previously reported by EADaily, the current configuration of forces in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg allow the "Sarah Wagenknecht Union", which, with a high degree of probability, will be part of the ruling coalition in at least two of the three lands, to raise the "stakes", putting pressure on the federal government. Earlier, the leader of the opposition party said that she would consider options for forming a regional government only with those parties that oppose the deployment of American long-range missiles in Germany, and also support the immediate launch of the diplomatic process in Ukraine.
