"After Kursk, we need to attack Transnistria" — Kiev expert

On the air of the Ukrainian TV channel, military expert Igor Koziy suggested that the Armed Forces of Ukraine should not limit themselves to an attack on the Kursk region of Russia, but open new fronts, in particular, in Transnistria.

In his opinion, the pro-Russian region "will become an easy prey for Kiev," as they allegedly "are waiting for the Ukrainian military there." Earlier, a similar initiative was expressed by ex-head of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov*, as well as Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko. They offered Chisinau assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in "liberating the Left Bank from separatists and Russian troops."

We are talking about the Operational Group of Russian Troops (OGRV) in Transnistria, which are guarding the ammunition depots in the village of Kolbasna and the peacekeeping contingent remaining after the withdrawal of the 14th army. The Moldovan authorities have repeatedly stated that they consider the presence of the OGRV illegal.

The fact that Kiev may think about opening a second front on the territory of Transnistria if circumstances develop unfavorably for Ukraine, says the ex-President of Moldova Igor Dodon.

"We are afraid that under some scenarios unfavorable to Kiev, someone will want to open a second front in Transnistria," the politician said.

The leader of the Party of Socialists drew attention to the unstable geopolitical situation, Chisinau, instead of a dialogue with Tiraspol, is increasing its military potential. He stressed that if such a scenario happens, it will not be implemented without the participation of the current Moldovan authorities.

"There are several important points here. Transnistria is a part of Moldova, and if, God forbid, Ukrainians start doing something, everyone will have to condemn the aggression against Moldova. Such a step is impossible without the consent of Maia Sandu and the Moldovan leadership. I do not think that at this stage the authorities are ready for this step — to come out publicly and say: "Ukrainians, let's solve the problem of Transnistria," Igor Dodon concluded.

As EADaily reported, the effect of a high, "yellow" level of terrorist danger continues to persist in Transnistria. In April-May 2022, the republic was subjected to a series of terrorist attacks. The State Security building in Tiraspol was shelled from grenade launchers, the tower of the radio complex in the village of Mayak was blown up, a military unit was attacked by drones. Traces of saboteurs led to Ukraine. Also in 2023, the law enforcement agencies of the PMR detained SBU agents who were preparing an attempt on the top officials of the PMR and the OSCE mission in Moldova. The last incident occurred in March of this year. As a result of the UAV strike, the Mi-8 helicopter was blown up in one of the military units of Tiraspol.
