Donald Trump's administration has sued New York Times journalists who reported security problems with the new Air Force One aircraft donated to the US president by Qatar. This is reported by CNN.
"Four New York Times journalists who covered security issues related to the plane donated by Qatar and serving the new Air Force One were summoned by the Department of Justice ... to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Wednesday," the TV channel reports with reference to The Times.
Judging by the subpoenas, the Trump administration is trying to find out who leaked information to the newspaper that Donald Trump left the NATO summit in Turkey on the old Air Force One due to security concerns from the Secret Service.
The subpoenas came after FBI Director Cash Patel met with White House officials on Friday to discuss the progress of the disclosure investigation, sources familiar with the matter told CNN. Patel also spoke on the phone with Trump on Friday about the investigation, one source said.
According to CNN sources, Trump was furious over reports of security issues related to a $ 400 million gift from Qatar, and in recent days he was embarrassed and angry when it became known that the flight was not equipped enough for a direct flight from Turkey to the United States.
It is noted that journalists have received subpoenas. The New York Times said it would challenge the court decision because it poses a direct threat to the media's ability to collect information in the public interest.
