Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) Vladimir Solovyov announced the exclusion of the Union from the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). He stated this to the portal " <url>".

"That's right. Even when we established our offices in four new regions of Russia — Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, Zaporozhye regions — in Brussels has decided to freeze our membership. Because only Congress could exclude it," he said.

Solovyov noted that the Russian Union was invited to the centennial congress of the international organization, which was held in Paris. However, the SDR decided to refuse to participate in the event.

"We have clarified our position. We sent a document to all participants of the Congress explaining in detail how the leadership of the International Federation violates its own statutory documents," Solovyov stressed.

He added that the decision to exclude the Union of Journalists of Russia from the international organization was made "yesterday during the congress."

As EADaily reported, at the beginning of March last year, the SRC expressed a strong protest against the EU sanctions that were imposed on eight Russian media outlets.

"The decision of the European authorities is aimed at the total suppression of alternative points of view in the information space, which is a gross violation of the principles of freedom of speech," the statement of the Russian Union said.
