The Pentagon is looking for developers to create an anti-aircraft complex capable of destroying small-sized drones, and is considering the XM913 Bushmaster 50-millimeter automatic cannon as a basis. According to The National Interest, the military has already announced the collection of applications from industry representatives.
Applications will be accepted until the end of August.
The new system should effectively hit drones of the first, second and third classes at low altitudes using shells of caliber 50x228 mm. In fact, this is a direct response to the Russian "Citadel", which is already working at the front and equipped with a 30-mm cannon.
The Americans believe that one properly configured installation with an accurate guidance system will be able to solve the problem of swarm attacks characteristic of modern conflicts.
EADaily previously also informed that a real "Leningradets" is now operating in the SMO area.
