At the age of 74, the father of the Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, passed away. He headed the Arab state for 18 years (from 1995 to 2013). This was reported by TASS with reference to the office of the head of the emirate.

Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani went down in history as the "architect of modern Qatar", who turned a small state into one of the world's largest exporters of liquefied natural gas. During his reign, Qatar's GDP has grown more than 24 times, plus it was he who founded the Al Jazeera TV channel, carried out constitutional reform and won the right to host the 2022 World Cup.

In 2013, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani voluntarily handed over power to his son Tamim.

EADaily also previously informed that US Senator Lindsey Graham had passed away.
