Matvienko told what will happen if Russians continue to be detained in Armenia

If Armenia continues the practice of detaining Russians at the request of third countries, Russian tourists will be warned against visiting the republic. This was stated by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko during a telephone conversation with the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ruben Rubinyan.

"The Chairman of the Federation Council also drew attention to the systematic detentions of Russian citizens in Armenia at the request of third countries. If this practice continues, Russia will be forced to issue a recommendation for its tourists not to visit the republic," the press service of the Federation Council said.

In July, a tourist from Russian Alexander Ermakov was detained in Yerevan, confused with a hacker wanted by Interpol. According to media reports, the men have nothing in common — the detainee is not connected with IT and does not know English. They have the same name and surname, patronymics are different.

Despite this, Armenian law enforcement officers sent the tourist to an isolation ward.
