Canadian superstar Celine Dion will receive $ 2 million (about 172.5 million rubles) for performing, presumably, one song at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. However, the Page Six portal has learned that celebrities usually do not receive a fee for participating in such events.
"Contrary to some media reports, the artists at the ceremonies in Paris will not receive a fee for their performance. Their decision to perform in such conditions reflects their desire to become part of a historic event for France and the world of sports," a representative of the Olympic organizing committee told the portal.
At the same time, the organizers will take care of all the expenses of the artists, "as is customary," including the costs of "technical production."
Celine Dion's appearance on stage next Friday will be the first public performance of the artist in several years.
As reported by EADaily, Celine Dion admitted to a serious diagnosis in December 2022. She suffers from a rare incurable and progressive neurological disorder, muscle stiffness syndrome.
No truly effective medicine has yet been found. At the same time, Dion continues to struggle with the disease, firmly intending to return to the stage.
In early February, the star appeared in public for the first time in a long time. She presented the Grammy Award for Album of the Year to American singer Taylor Swift.
Later, the documentary I am: Celine Dion was released, called by the singer and her team a "love letter to fans." A scene near the end of the tape shows Dion returning from the studio after recording the title track to the 2023 film Love Again, and suddenly the singer has a seizure. The singer felt that these shots should be left in the picture to "help others understand what it means to be in her body."
